We’re a Sydney-based couple with backgrounds in finance, currently planning the renovation of our own home in Northbridge. Like many homeowners, we found ourselves making some of the biggest financial decisions of our lives with surprisingly little real-world information about what was actually happening around us.
What are people investing and building in their homes in our suburb?
Are they renovating or rebuilding in our suburb?
And what could that tell us before we make the same decisions in our suburb?
How do we get confidence around not materially over- or under-capitalising on our project in our suburb?
So we started looking at the data.
Jicora uses planning, development, construction and property-market data to explore what homeowners are actually building, what they're spending, how homes and neighbourhoods are changing, and what that evidence can tell us about our own decisions.
Northbridge is where our own renovation journey started, so you'll see it frequently in our early research. But the questions we're investigating aren't unique to Northbridge. They're questions homeowners across Sydney face when deciding what — and how much — is worth investing in their property.
We're building Jicora to share what we learn and, over time, make this kind of local property intelligence more accessible to homeowners making their own decisions.
